Selfies have become a big thing in social media in the last few years. With smartphones it is so easy to take a quick picture of yourself doing something fun and share it with your friends

Here in Queenstown, the bum-bag or fanny-pack has now been replaced by selfie sticks. While looking silly to the locals, the fact is you get a better picture when the camera is further away.

So how can you improve on the selfie? Drone Selfies.

Drone selfies or dronies are going to be big this year.

What is a Dronie?

Amit Gupta, the founder of Photojojo used the camera on his drone to capture this awesome dronie of himself, Nick Bilton, and Zach Klein on top of the Bernal Hill in San Francisco.

Closer to home, last winter Tourism New Zealand launched the NZdronie project to promote New Zealands south island ski fields.

The project was a great idea simultaneously showing NZ to the world and giving tourists a great holiday memento. You can see more by looking at #NZdronie on twitter

The drone featured in this clip is the DJI Phantom 2. Still one of the most popular drones available.
